For our first Easter Sunday in the yurt we decided to try a different concept… family roast sharing boards. Diners were asked to pre-order their roast joints. Provenance, as always at Peterley, was paramount… Free-range chickens were sourced from “Potash Farm” near Tring, while the legs of lamb came from just down the road, “Stockings Farm” in Amersham.

Families arrived in their droves and were treated to sharing boards of whole roast joints which they carved themselves at the table. Accompanying the roasts were bowls piled high with roast potatoes, yorkshire puds, as well as vegetable gratins, seasonal purple sprouting and roasted carrots and lashings of homemade gravy. Needless to say even the hungriest families left defeated carrying ‘picnic’ boxes of leftovers ready for an easy Easter Monday supper.

Our family Sunday roast might need to become a more regular affair….
